Restoring A Shapely Smile
Simple Steps, Dramatic Results
Chipped, stained, discolored, unevenly spaced, or even slightly crooked front teeth can cause people not to smile. And that's no way to live! Fortunately, we have a couple of simple ways to restore such teeth, giving you an entirely new-looking, long-lasting expression of confidence and happiness: either via composite resin bonding and/or applying porcelain veneers. If you're interested in rejunvenating your smile by restoring some problem teeth, Dr. Strawman or Dr. Kaiser will first carefully evaluate your specific situation, listening to you explain the exact changes you have in mind. He'll then recommend the proper procedures for your particular teeth, and suggest a general treatment 'plan of action'. Then he'll show you photos of similar case outcomes, so that you'll have a good idea of how the procedures will impact your smile.
Beautiful Bonding
Both procedures require just a few simple steps. Composite resin bonding simply involves the use of a silicon dioxide-filled tooth-colored plastic mixture, which Dr. Strawman or Dr. Kaiser applies to the tooth/teeth needing repair. This material molds easily to very precise shapes, bonds to the actual tooth structure, can be permanently 'cured' with a special light, and polishes nicely into an attractive, natural-looking final tooth.
Classy Coverings
Porcelain veneer application is a bit more involved, requiring the bonding of thin, shell-like coverings onto your problem teeth. The veneers create a more attractive color, shape or size, and often represent a durable alternative to porcelain crowns. To apply veneers, Dr. Strawman or Dr. Kaiser prepares the teeth by gently buffing or filing approximately one half of a millimeter from the surface of each recipient tooth. Occasionally, this step requires a local anesthetic. He'll then take the final mold or impression and send it to a special professional dental laboratory. There, experts will carefully produce the veneers for a custom-fit.
When the veneers are ready, Dr. Strawman or Dr. Kaiser will apply them temporarily with water or glycerine, to test their fit and color. As soon as you're both completely happy with their compatibility, look, feel, and fit, he'll permanently affix them to your teeth using special dental cement. Finally, to activate the cement's hardening agent, he'll apply a visible light beam to the veneers and create your finished look.
Of course, whether it's bonding or veneers, or a combination of both procedures, you'll need to clean and floss your new smile daily! Not to mention regular dental visits for professional care and maintenance. And to protect this new investment, you may also want to discuss wearing a night-guard to prevent any accidental clenching or grinding pressure while you sleep.
